Biography:
Daughter of well known actor Anil Kapoor and ex model Sunita Kapoor and a niece of Boney and Sanjay Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor was born the eldest child on 9th June, 1985. She also has a younger sister Rhea and brother Harshvardhan. Through her family, Sonam always had the exposure to the films world of Bollywood.
She has studied at University of East London and graduated from Mumbai University in Political science and Economics. Along with this, she is also a trained classical and Latin dancer. She has also studied Theatre Arts from Singapore.
Sonam started off in films on the sets of Black with the celebrated director Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant. It was then that her mother and Bhansali who saw some hidden potential in her, suggested her to take up acting. This is how she was first launched in Bhansali’s film Saawariya opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Although this film did not do well at the box office, it gave Sonam the start into the profession of acting. Sonam also won the Female Best Debut Award from Filmfare and Zee for her role in Saawariya.
Delhi 6 is Sonam’s recent release where she is cast opposite Abhishek Bacchan. Her performance in Delhi 6 is getting her some rave reviews. Her pleasant screen presence and down to earth nature has already won Sonam innumerable fans and has made her a popular star.
