Biography:
Producer director and yesteryears’ actor Rakesh Roshan is the son of legendary music director Roshan and the father of the most vibrant and adored actor Hrithik Roshan. While Pinky Roshan is his spouse, Rajesh Roshan is his brother.
Roshan completed his studies from Satara. He turned to acting for a career and appeared in a multitude of films before he started directing and producing films. He starred in films such as Zakhmee, Ginny Aur Johnny, Aahuti, Aap Ke Deewaane, Kaamchor, Khoon Bhari Maang, Akele Hum Akele Tum, et al.
In 1980, Roshan set up his own production company Filmkraft. The first film that he produced was Aap Ke Deewane. He made his directorial debut with the film Khudgarz. This was followed by many successful films like Karan Arjun, Kishen Kanhaiya, Khel and Koyla. Roshan is known for making films with titles beginning with ‘K.’ He launched his son, the stunning Hrithik Roshan, in 2000 in the blockbuster film Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai. This film won the Best Director and Best Movie Award. In fact it went on record to be entered in the Limca Book of Records as a Bollywood film to win the most number of awards.
After such huge success, Roshan directed another superhit film, Koi Mil Gaya. This film was based on science fiction and was widely appreciated by the audience for the noteworthy performance of Hrithik Roshan, who was cast as a mentally challenged boy. This was followed by the sequel of Koi Mil Gaya i.e. another commercial success in the form of the film Krrish, once again starring Hrithik. Roshan is now in the process of directing another sequel to Krrish. Besides this, he has also produced the film Krazzy 4.
Roshan is the recipient of numerous awards and honours. To mention a few, Roshan was honoured at the International Film Festival of India and Global Indian Film Awards for his remarkable contribution to mainstream cinema.
