Biography:
Madhubala (born Mumtaz Begum Jehan Dehlavi) was a popular Hindi film actress who starred in several successful films in the 1950s and early 1960s. She is one of the most talented and influential actresses to have appeared on the screens of Hindi Cinema.
Her first film was the box-office success, Basant (1942) in which she played the daughter of the popular actress, Mumtaz Shanti. She then went on to act in several films as a child artist. Her first break as a lead actress came when filmmaker, Kidar Sharma cast her opposite Raj Kapoor in Neel Kamal (1947), and it was in this movie she reinvented her name as Madhubala. However it was not until Mahal in 1949, that Madhubala became a fully fledged star and a household name, enchanting audience with her beauty and great acting talent. Other memorable Madubala movies include Mughal-e-Azam, Amar, Mr. & Mrs. 55 and Biraj Bahu. However, Madhubala’s career and tumultuous life ended sadly with her early death in 1969 due to congenital heart condition.
