Konkona Sen Sharma

Biography: Konkona Sen Sharma is a widely appreciated and well known actress of the Indian film industry. She is the daughter of Bengali actress and film director Aparna Sen and science writer and journalist Mukul Sharma.

Konkona first appeared on screen as a child artist in the film Indira in 1983. She played her first adult role in a Bengali movie ‘Ek Je Aacche Kanya’ in 2000. She first tasted success with the English language film Mr. and Mrs. Iyer where she starred opposite Rahul Bose. The film was directed by her mother. This movie won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. It acted as a launch pad for Konkona and opened the doors of Bollywood for her. Konkona then appeared in Madhur Bnandarkar’s Page 3 which too was critically acclaimed.

She gained accolades for her roles in 15 Park Avenue, Traffic Signal, Omkara and Laga Chunri Mein Daag. Her role in Life in a Metro: a superhit film won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. She also won a National Film award for Best Supporting Actress for Omkara. Along with Hindi cinema, Konkona has worked in Bengali films as well, of which Dosar which was very successful. She has also appeared in Aaja Nach Le along with legendary Madhuri Dixit, but this film did not do very well at the box office.

Her latest release was Luck By Chance opposite Farhan Akhtar. She has a string of films coming up - Rituparno’s Sunglass, Neeraj Pathak’s Right Ya Wrong, Karan Johar’s forthcoming production Wake Up Sid amongst others. Konkona Sen is currently racing through her bollywood destiny onward and ever forward.
