John Abraham

Biography: John Abraham is known for his sexy physique and good looks, and is one of the most successful male models. He was born to a Malayali Syrian Christian father and a Parsi mother. His Parsi name is Farhan to which his father added Abraham in reverence for the bible. John also has a younger brother Alan.

He completed his BA in Economics from Jai Hind College and obtained an MBA degree from Mumbai Educational Trust. John started his career with media agencies like Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd. and Enterprises-Nexus followed by his modeling assignments and ad commercials. In 1999, he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and finished in second place in Manhunt International held in Singapore. Later he completed an acting course at Kishore Namit Kapoor’s acting lab.

In 2003, John made his first debut in the film Jism opposite Bipasha Basu. Although this film did not do as well, he was able to attract attention of several viewers. John next appeared in films like Saaya, Aetbaar, Paap, but all of them failed to make a mark at the box office. In 2004, he appeared in a negative role in Dhoom which was a runaway success.

John’s other films like Kaal, comedy film Garam Masala, Zinda, Taxi No. 9211, Baabul and Kabul Express were commercially successful. His work in Water earned him critical acclaim. This film was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Academy Awards and introduced him to international spectators. In 2007, he starred in films like Salaam- e-Ishq, No Smoking and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. 2008 witnessed the release of one of his greatest successes, Dostana which is based on homosexuality.

John is also associated with PETA and Habitat of Humanity. Besides this, he is the brand ambassador for Yamaha Marque and Castrol Power1 and has endorsed brands like Wrangler, Fastrack eye gear and Samsung phones.
