Biography:
Dev Anand (born DharamDev Pishorimal Anand) is a legendary Hindi cinema actor, producer and director. Dev Anand is the second of three brothers actively involved in Indian cinema. His elder brother Chetan Anand was a film director, as was his younger brother, Vijay Anand.
Dev was born in Gurdaspur in undivided Punjab to a well-to-do advocate Pishorimal Anand. His love for acting made him leave his hometown for Mumbai, the hub of the Hindi film industry. He was soon offered a break as an actor by Prabhat Talkies to star in their Hum Ek Hain (1946). However his first hit came with Ziddi (1948). Dev Anand was one of the leading and most admired actors of 1950s and 60s. His distinctive gait and style are well remembered and adulated. His many successful films include classics like Kala Pani, Guide, Jewel Thief and Kala Bazaar. He even semi-successfully tried his hand at direction, making the very successful Hare Rama Hare Krishna and many other less remembered works.
