Born: 26 October, 1985 in Cochin, Kerala, India

Biography: Originally from Kerala, Asin was born in a Syrian Christian family. Her father, Joseph is a successful entrepreneur and mother Seline is a surgeon. Asin is the only daughter of her parents. She did her schooling from Naval Public School and graduated in English Literature from St. Theresa’s College. Thereafter she started assisting her father in business which ranged from software to exports and started modeling alongside. Asin has appeared in many ads like Colgate Toothpaste and Fairever Cream. This model cum actress is proficient in a number of languages like English, French, Malyalam and Tamil.

At 15, Asin made her first debut in a Malyalam film Sathyan Anthikad's Narendaran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in 2001. She then furthered her career with films like Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi and Shivamani in Telugu. The former won her the Telugu Filmfare Best Actress Award. After some more films in Telugu Asin signed some films in Tamil co-starring leading Tamil actors like Surya, Vikram, Ajith, Vijay et al. She worked in successful films like Ghajini, Majaa and Varalaru. Her performance in Ghajini was appreciated and won her Tamil Filmfare Best Actress Award. These films gave Asin a strong foothold in the South Indian film industry.

Her other films in Tamil are Pokkiri, Vel and Dasavattharam. After Kollywood, Asin now looked towards Bollywood. Her first film Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan was a remake of her previous film with the same name. This film became a tremendous success at the box office and even assimilated some nice reviews from critics.

Asin’s forthcoming films are Vipul Shah’s London Dreams where she will be seen alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, and the 19th Step, which is being made in English, Japanese and Tamil, where she co-stars with Kamal Hasan and Tadanobu Asano.
