Biography:
The youngest son of former Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna, Akshaye is known for his dimples and striking looks. Before venturing into acting, he completed a course with Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute.
In 1997, Akshaye made his debut with Vinod Khanna’s production Himalaya Putra. Although this movie failed commercially, his performance did not go unnoticed. In the same year Akshaye appeared in J. P. Dutta’s Border which became immensely successful and won him the Filmfare Best Debut Award. Post Border Akshaye worked in a number of films like Mohabbat, Kudrat, Aa Ab Laut Chalen, but these films failed to make a mark. Akshaye was back in limelight with his film Taal which was widely appreciated. His role in Dil Chahta Hai, another super hit film was much admired and won him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. He also appeared in a negative role in Humraaz for which he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Villian Award.
From 2002 - 06, he starred in films like LOC Kargil, Hulchul, Aap Ki Khatir, Salaam-e-Ishq and Naqaab. While Hulchul did extremely well at the box office, Aap Ki Khatir was not so successful. The much hyped Salaam-e-Ishq too turned out to be a fiasco. Naqaab did just reasonably well but his performance was appreciated by critics. Akshaye’s role in Gandhi, My Father where he plays Harilal Gandhi was well recognized and critically acclaimed. It is known to be Akshaye’s best performance till date. He also won the Best Performance Award in the Australian Indian Film Festival for this film.
In 2008, he was seen in the multi starrer movie Race. His forthcoming films are Life Partner and Anil Kapoor’s Shortcut - The Con Is On.
