Born: 2 April, 1969 in Delhi, India
Biography:
Born as Vishal Devgan, this Bollywood actor is known as Ajay Devgan across the industry. He is the son of action director Veeru Devgan and Veena Devgan, and a brother of film director Anil Devgan. Ajay was initially seen in action roles. He married Kajol in Mumbai in 1999 and they have a daughter named Nysa.
He started his journey into films with action oriented roles. His first debut Phool Aur Kaante won him the Filmfare Best Debut Award. He did many action films like Ek Hi Rasta and Vijaypath. Then in 1997 he did a comedy named Ishq and a host of other unconventional roles. He also worked in a romantic movie in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, which did quite well at the box office. This was followed by Mahesh Bhatt’s Zakhm which won him the National Film Award for Best Actor as well as a Star Screen award.
In 1999, Ajay’s role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam only proved Ajay’s versatility as an actor and the treasure of talent that he possesses. This is one film that became a huge success and was well appreciated. In 2002, Ajay worked in some more successes like Company. He won the second National Film Award for his role in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s The Legend of Bhagatsingh. His other successful movies are Mani Ratnam’s Yuva and Halla Bol.
In 2008, his first directorial debut U, Me Aur Hum alongwith his wife also did reasonably well at the box office. Ajay’s superhit film Golmaal and its sequel Golmaal Returns again featured Ajay in a light, comic role. Amongst his future releases lined up are London Dreams.
An otherwise introvert person, Ajay has always proved his mettle in his performances and has come across as a versatile and gifted actor who lends soul to his roles.
