Biography:
The eldest son of veteran director Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra is a well known director and producer in his own right. A movie buff right from childhood, he made his first film at the age of twenty three. He made his debut direction with the film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ) starring Shahrukh and Kajol. This film was a blockbuster and won many prestigious awards. It won the President’s Gold Medal for being the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment. This film has been the longest running film in Indian cinema; the British Film Institute also commissioned a book on the same. Chopra contributed towards direction, dialogues, story and screenplay for DDLJ.
Aditya Chopra learnt a lot through his viewing of varied and voluminous films. At first, he assisted his father in films like Chandni, Lamhe and Darr. Later, with his father’s support and blessings, he went on to make his debut in the form of DDLJ. Since his singular success of DDLJ, Chopra has worked on many other films. He has directed two other films – Mohabattein, and the very recently released film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Apart from this, he has worked on the screenplay and dialogues for Dil To Pagal Hai, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Dialogue. He wrote the story, screenplay and dialogues for Veer Zaara and again won the Filmfare Award for Best Story and Best Dialogue. He has also worked on the scripts of Banti Aur Babli and Dhoom 2.
Today, Chopra works as the Producer, Creative Head and Vice Chairman of Yash Raj Films. He is involved in its expansion plans and is responsible for its growth and success. An extremely creative and talented director and writer, Chopra has paved the way for new age directors in Indian cinema.
