Leading comic book publishers Marvel Entertainment International, who gave the world unforgettable super heroes like Spider Man and The Hulk, are now looking to rope in Indian production houses to jointly create a Desi super hero.
Marvel's representative Simon.J.Philips is in India at present and said that they were greatly interested in the potential of the Indian market as a major consumer base. Their venture, which will either be a co-production with an Indian franchising house or a complete acquisition of a domestic franchise, has been strategically planned to popularize Marvel's products in the country.
He reported that the plan includes an initial publishing business, which will be expanded gradually to television serials and a full length feature film on the project. They have tied up with Spacetoon India in an effort to widen the distribution of their existing comic books with an Indian twist to the characters and situations. The books will be released in English and Hindi.
As for the Indian super hero franchise, Rakesh Roshan' s hugely successful Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish could be one of the options. However, Philips said that Marvel was considering the adaptation of a mythological character for the new creation.
