Verdict: Oodles of melodrama – but worth a watch
What makes Bhandarkar cinema interesting and compelling to watch is his knack of picking up sensational topics and events from real life, adding the extra zing and delivering it a fast paced, reasonably well executed manner. And Fashion too, mostly lives up to the promise. The story may not be water tight but since inspired from multiple real life incidents and events holds the audience’s attention. However, better editing and little less clichés and melodrama would have been nice. The performances of the three leading ladies are worth appreciating – especially in some moments. Priyanka has acted convincingly well except a few overtly acted and recited dialogues (for which the credit or discredit goes to the director or screenplay writer and not really her). Kangana’s mad ‘doppie’ act is good in its moments. And the surprise package is Mughda Godse, who despite being a newcomer has done good justice to her character. However, the character build up esp of the protagonist is faulty and quite unconvincing in places – esp the transition of Meghna Mathur (Priyanka) from a catty arrogant model to a benevolent and altruistic caretaker of the drug addict, sick ex- supermodel (Kangana). The movie overall is a reasonably good movie watching experience but we definitely expected better from the national award winning director.

...Bhandarkar's oeuvre may not exactly fall into the classic cinema verite cult, nevertheless, it does try to bridge the gap between art house cinema and mainstream masala...
