Do Bigha Zamin

Synopsis: An independent farmer Shambu’s land plays havoc in the Zamindar’s plan of building a mill. The Zamindar asks Shambu to sign on a blank document but he refuses. Angered, the Zamindar asks him to repay his overdue loan. Shambu repays a certain amount but the Zamindar claims that Shambu owed him more than thrice of what he repaid. As a result, Shambu is dragged to court and asked to repay the sum in three months. Shambu, then, with his son moves to Calcutta to raise the due amount.
